Giving at St Stephen’s

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich. 2 Corinthians 8:9

Why we Give

At St. Stephen's God's word is the bedrock for what everything we do, and that includes why we give financial support to the Ministries and Mission Partners of St Stephen's. The Bible teaches us how we as followers of Christ can faithfully obey God's word regarding to giving.

Psalm 24:1 implies that anything and everything we have comes from God. We are to use his good gifts in ways that honour him. The Bible tells us God’s people should give because:

  1. We are partners in God’s gospel. (Philippians 1:5 & 4:15)

  2. We have an obligation to provide for those who labour amongst us in the Lord and teach us God’s word. (1 Corinthians 9:7-14)

  3. We must show love to those in need. (Ephesians 4:281 John 3:17)

But most importantly, we give in gratefully. This is an opportunity to respond to the unmatchable generosity of God, shown in the death of his Son.

If you're a follower of Christ the most basic question to ask about giving is: how much have we received from God?
